vLLM v0.33.0 shipped CUDA 13.0-only wheels, a new /v1/decisions endpoint and 927 commits from 389 contributors

AspireAI community · vLLM
vLLM v0.33.0 is the project's largest release so far by commit count, at 927 commits from 389 contributors. The CUDA 12.9 wheels and the -cu129 images are gone, so the release is CUDA 13.0 only, and the CUDA wheel is now ABI stable with libtorch. The headline serving features are an OpenAI-compatible /v1/decisions endpoint on by default for supported generation models, token embeddings with optional late chunking, and a new AWS EFA image bundling the Mooncake transfer engine for KV transfer and multi-node serving. Speculative decoding gains a new XPress refiner for block-diffusion drafters, with the release notes reporting DeepSeek-V4.1-Flash plus DSpark on GB300 rising from 1373 to 3390 output tokens per second. Medusa and the MLP speculator were removed, which will break some existing deployments.

THE BIG PICTURE
A FRESH PERSPECTIVE

One distance function matched sparse-autoencoder features across layers and compressed feature circuits into supernodes
Two sparse-autoencoder analyses have resisted scaling: matching semantically similar features across layers, and compressing large feature circuits into interpretable supernodes. This paper argues both are the same underlying problem, estimating semantic distances between SAE features that sit on different activation manifolds. Its representation treats each feature not as a single decoder vector but as an activation-weighted distribution over the hidden states expressing it, projects those distributions into a shared reference space, and compares them with Wasserstein distance. The representation is proved invariant to activation rescaling and stable under perturbation, and recovers true matches under finite-sample margin conditions. Empirically it outperformed decoder-vector and LLM-based baselines and captured subtle functional distinctions between related features, and it compressed large feature circuits into interpretable supernodes automatically. The limitation is that this is interpretability tooling: the paper demonstrates better feature matching and circuit compression, not that downstream interpretability claims become more accurate.
