FullFront measured MLLMs across the whole front-end workflow, and the best model averaged under 55 percent against human experts above 95 percent

AspireAI community · arXiv (2505.17399)
Most multimodal coding benchmarks turn a design into code, which skips the two steps around it. FullFront covers the whole front-end pipeline instead: webpage design, webpage perception QA, and webpage code generation, built from real pages transformed into clean standardized HTML so the benchmark avoids both scraped bloat and oversimplified generated markup. The results are uncomfortable for current models. The best performer, Claude 3.7 Sonnet, averages under 55 percent accuracy against human performance above 95 percent, with accuracy gaps of 44.5, 38 and 38 percent on the three perception subtasks, and models struggle most with the geometry of a page: alignment 21.5 percent, size 19.5 percent, spacing 15.5 percent, positioning 18.5 percent. Open and closed models are close on perception, and InternVL3-78B leads the full benchmark at 53.75 percent on synthetic QA. The limitation is that perception accuracy sits below 35 percent across all QA subtasks, so the headline average mixes tasks of very different difficulty.

THE BIG PICTURE
A FRESH PERSPECTIVE

One distance function matched sparse-autoencoder features across layers and compressed feature circuits into supernodes
Two sparse-autoencoder analyses have resisted scaling: matching semantically similar features across layers, and compressing large feature circuits into interpretable supernodes. This paper argues both are the same underlying problem, estimating semantic distances between SAE features that sit on different activation manifolds. Its representation treats each feature not as a single decoder vector but as an activation-weighted distribution over the hidden states expressing it, projects those distributions into a shared reference space, and compares them with Wasserstein distance. The representation is proved invariant to activation rescaling and stable under perturbation, and recovers true matches under finite-sample margin conditions. Empirically it outperformed decoder-vector and LLM-based baselines and captured subtle functional distinctions between related features, and it compressed large feature circuits into interpretable supernodes automatically. The limitation is that this is interpretability tooling: the paper demonstrates better feature matching and circuit compression, not that downstream interpretability claims become more accurate.
