A video world model that stops drifting when the thing you need is outside the context window

AspireAI community · arXiv
Long-horizon consistency in video world models breaks down once relevant content falls outside the context window, and the two existing fixes each have a cost. Retrieving history as implicit context stays limited by context capacity and entangles static and dynamic information; consolidating into explicit global representations struggles with evolving dynamics and accumulates geometric error. GROME factorizes memory into static scene geometry and dynamic entity states, retrieves spatially aligned static history alongside the latest dynamic states, and injects the result into the video world model through its native conditioning path without any additional training. On long-horizon revisit scenarios the authors report substantial gains in scene persistence and dynamic entity fidelity over existing methods while preserving the visual quality and controllability of the frozen backbone. Because the injection is training-free, it also works as plug-and-play memory for external observations.

THE BIG PICTURE
A FRESH PERSPECTIVE

One distance function matched sparse-autoencoder features across layers and compressed feature circuits into supernodes
Two sparse-autoencoder analyses have resisted scaling: matching semantically similar features across layers, and compressing large feature circuits into interpretable supernodes. This paper argues both are the same underlying problem, estimating semantic distances between SAE features that sit on different activation manifolds. Its representation treats each feature not as a single decoder vector but as an activation-weighted distribution over the hidden states expressing it, projects those distributions into a shared reference space, and compares them with Wasserstein distance. The representation is proved invariant to activation rescaling and stable under perturbation, and recovers true matches under finite-sample margin conditions. Empirically it outperformed decoder-vector and LLM-based baselines and captured subtle functional distinctions between related features, and it compressed large feature circuits into interpretable supernodes automatically. The limitation is that this is interpretability tooling: the paper demonstrates better feature matching and circuit compression, not that downstream interpretability claims become more accurate.
