Implicit Minor Detection from Multi-Turn Dialogue in High-Risk AI Interactions: A Constrained Self-Evolving LLM Harness

AspireAI community · arXiv
This paper frames estimating whether a speaker in a text chat is likely to be a minor as a high-risk user-attribute inference problem, for settings that have no account, verified identity, facial or device signals and must rely on cues that emerge across turns. The proposed framework combines a language model, a harness that controls when inference is triggered and requires structured dialogue-linked evidence, and a Maker-Checker protocol that subjects validation-selected harness revisions to version-level review. On a controlled Chinese benchmark of 8,328 multi-turn dialogues, the authors report average precision and minor-class F1 improve by 7.60 and 6.37 percentage points respectively over direct inference with the same model family. The benchmark is controlled and the paper is a preprint, so the result may not transfer to open-ended deployments.

THE BIG PICTURE
A FRESH PERSPECTIVE

One distance function matched sparse-autoencoder features across layers and compressed feature circuits into supernodes
Two sparse-autoencoder analyses have resisted scaling: matching semantically similar features across layers, and compressing large feature circuits into interpretable supernodes. This paper argues both are the same underlying problem, estimating semantic distances between SAE features that sit on different activation manifolds. Its representation treats each feature not as a single decoder vector but as an activation-weighted distribution over the hidden states expressing it, projects those distributions into a shared reference space, and compares them with Wasserstein distance. The representation is proved invariant to activation rescaling and stable under perturbation, and recovers true matches under finite-sample margin conditions. Empirically it outperformed decoder-vector and LLM-based baselines and captured subtle functional distinctions between related features, and it compressed large feature circuits into interpretable supernodes automatically. The limitation is that this is interpretability tooling: the paper demonstrates better feature matching and circuit compression, not that downstream interpretability claims become more accurate.
