A 16B model was asked to understand the world, plan in it, and then control a robot with the same weights

Most embodied models specialize: one for understanding scenes, another for planning, a third for control. RynnUnify is a 16B model that tries to do all three by reasoning over interleaved video and language, with an agentic extension trained via reinforcement learning that selectively calls on video predictions for states the agent cannot observe, plus a world-action extension that converts that understanding into robot control. It reports the highest average embodied understanding score among the unified multimodal models evaluated, beats Cosmos 3 Nano by 9.75 points on its own Rynn-VP visual planning benchmark, and gains 6.0 points on Rynn-GEU from the agentic extension over direct reasoning. The control results are more modest: 51.5% success across 20 selected composite RoboCasa365 tasks and 46.7% average across three real-robot tasks. Three real robots is a small sample, so the real-world claim is a demonstration rather than a measured capability.

Two sparse-autoencoder analyses have resisted scaling: matching semantically similar features across layers, and compressing large feature circuits into interpretable supernodes. This paper argues both are the same underlying problem, estimating semantic distances between SAE features that sit on different activation manifolds. Its representation treats each feature not as a single decoder vector but as an activation-weighted distribution over the hidden states expressing it, projects those distributions into a shared reference space, and compares them with Wasserstein distance. The representation is proved invariant to activation rescaling and stable under perturbation, and recovers true matches under finite-sample margin conditions. Empirically it outperformed decoder-vector and LLM-based baselines and captured subtle functional distinctions between related features, and it compressed large feature circuits into interpretable supernodes automatically. The limitation is that this is interpretability tooling: the paper demonstrates better feature matching and circuit compression, not that downstream interpretability claims become more accurate.
