A self-evolving image-generation harness that only admits causally valid skill patches matched proprietary generators including GPT-Image

VEvo-Harness targets the failure mode in agentic image generation where generate-verify-rewrite loops either discard repair experience or admit ungated updates that poison the skill library. It adds a visual traceback that converts sparse judgments into root-cause attributions, a continual governance layer that admits a skill patch only when counterfactual dual-arm image generation replay shows it is causally valid, a lifecycle-managed harness state that distills episodes into a persistent library, and a cost-aware sandbox that routes different repair primitives. The authors report that VEvo-Harness surpasses state-of-the-art agentic methods and rivals proprietary generators including GPT-Image and Nano-Pro. The comparison is against the authors' chosen baselines and named closed models, so the proprietary-match claim rests on their own harness and scoring.

Two sparse-autoencoder analyses have resisted scaling: matching semantically similar features across layers, and compressing large feature circuits into interpretable supernodes. This paper argues both are the same underlying problem, estimating semantic distances between SAE features that sit on different activation manifolds. Its representation treats each feature not as a single decoder vector but as an activation-weighted distribution over the hidden states expressing it, projects those distributions into a shared reference space, and compares them with Wasserstein distance. The representation is proved invariant to activation rescaling and stable under perturbation, and recovers true matches under finite-sample margin conditions. Empirically it outperformed decoder-vector and LLM-based baselines and captured subtle functional distinctions between related features, and it compressed large feature circuits into interpretable supernodes automatically. The limitation is that this is interpretability tooling: the paper demonstrates better feature matching and circuit compression, not that downstream interpretability claims become more accurate.
