WebAnything rebuilt 244 real websites into reusable agent environments from live URLs, and fine-tuning on 5,856 of its trajectories lifted WebArena-Verified success by 13.3 points

AspireAI community · arXiv
Web agents need diverse, executable, resettable website environments, but human-assisted mirrors demand per-site engineering while generative construction drifts from the real site. WebAnything reconstructs source-grounded environments from real URLs with no per-site manual implementation: an Explorer-Builder collects browser-observable structure and interaction outcomes, and an independent verifier checks frozen candidates and guides local repair or targeted source recapture. The authors built 244 website artifacts across 14 application domains and 53 categories supporting 12,984 executed and accepted tasks, and in a blind audit against human-assisted WebHarbor scored 12 wins, two ties and no losses on three fidelity metrics. Fine-tuning Qwen3.5-9B on 5,856 interaction trajectories improved REAL success by 9.9 points and WebArena-Verified overall success by 13.33 points under a fixed harness. The gains are measured with one base model and one harness, so how far they carry to other models is untested.

THE BIG PICTURE
A FRESH PERSPECTIVE
Research
One distance function matched sparse-autoencoder features across layers and compressed feature circuits into supernodes
Two sparse-autoencoder analyses have resisted scaling: matching semantically similar features across layers, and compressing large feature circuits into interpretable supernodes. This paper argues both are the same underlying problem, estimating semantic distances between SAE features that sit on different activation manifolds. Its representation treats each feature not as a single decoder vector but as an activation-weighted distribution over the hidden states expressing it, projects those distributions into a shared reference space, and compares them with Wasserstein distance. The representation is proved invariant to activation rescaling and stable under perturbation, and recovers true matches under finite-sample margin conditions. Empirically it outperformed decoder-vector and LLM-based baselines and captured subtle functional distinctions between related features, and it compressed large feature circuits into interpretable supernodes automatically. The limitation is that this is interpretability tooling: the paper demonstrates better feature matching and circuit compression, not that downstream interpretability claims become more accurate.
