L3G-World generated interactive worlds at 9 FPS by storing the scene as 3D Gaussians that carry their own latent features

AspireAI community · arXiv (Choi, Lee, Lee et al.)
L3G-World pairs a memory updater with a video diffusion transformer in an autoregressive loop, so a world model keeps generating frames while a compact Latent 3D Gaussian Memory holds the scene. The memory grows with the extent of the scene rather than the length of the generated stream, and each Gaussian stores a VAE latent feature, which lets the memory be rendered straight into the DiT's latent space instead of re-encoding RGB frames. The authors report up to 38.6x fewer 3D primitives, 3.2x faster memory updates and 359x faster memory rendering than the most efficient prior 3D-memory baseline on each of those metrics, enabling real-time generation at 9 FPS. The comparison is per-metric against whichever prior baseline was strongest on that metric rather than one single system, so the speedups should be read as best-case comparisons.

THE BIG PICTURE
A FRESH PERSPECTIVE

One distance function matched sparse-autoencoder features across layers and compressed feature circuits into supernodes
Two sparse-autoencoder analyses have resisted scaling: matching semantically similar features across layers, and compressing large feature circuits into interpretable supernodes. This paper argues both are the same underlying problem, estimating semantic distances between SAE features that sit on different activation manifolds. Its representation treats each feature not as a single decoder vector but as an activation-weighted distribution over the hidden states expressing it, projects those distributions into a shared reference space, and compares them with Wasserstein distance. The representation is proved invariant to activation rescaling and stable under perturbation, and recovers true matches under finite-sample margin conditions. Empirically it outperformed decoder-vector and LLM-based baselines and captured subtle functional distinctions between related features, and it compressed large feature circuits into interpretable supernodes automatically. The limitation is that this is interpretability tooling: the paper demonstrates better feature matching and circuit compression, not that downstream interpretability claims become more accurate.
