Video editing agents were relearning from finished videos: a 9B policy trained on 130K recovered examples cut generated tokens 33x

AspireAI community · arXiv (WeVisCut)
WeVisCut is a script-to-video system that connects tool execution with policy learning, keeping shared production state so tool feedback informs and repairs later decisions, and recovers training supervision that finished videos do not expose through a four-stage pipeline combining editing inversion with verified replay. Applied to 3,750 finished videos it yields over 130K training examples used to train a single 9B policy, and the authors report it substantially outperforming its base model and reaching comparable performance to Claude Opus 5 while using nearly 33x fewer generated tokens per successful output minute, alongside a new 100-task benchmark and five metrics. The comparison is within a shared tool environment, and the benchmark's metrics are proposed by the authors.

THE BIG PICTURE
A FRESH PERSPECTIVE

One distance function matched sparse-autoencoder features across layers and compressed feature circuits into supernodes
Two sparse-autoencoder analyses have resisted scaling: matching semantically similar features across layers, and compressing large feature circuits into interpretable supernodes. This paper argues both are the same underlying problem, estimating semantic distances between SAE features that sit on different activation manifolds. Its representation treats each feature not as a single decoder vector but as an activation-weighted distribution over the hidden states expressing it, projects those distributions into a shared reference space, and compares them with Wasserstein distance. The representation is proved invariant to activation rescaling and stable under perturbation, and recovers true matches under finite-sample margin conditions. Empirically it outperformed decoder-vector and LLM-based baselines and captured subtle functional distinctions between related features, and it compressed large feature circuits into interpretable supernodes automatically. The limitation is that this is interpretability tooling: the paper demonstrates better feature matching and circuit compression, not that downstream interpretability claims become more accurate.
