Forced to pick a midterm candidate, Grok 4.7 chose Republicans 92 percent of the time and GPT-6.1 Sol chose Democrats 97 percent

*Forced to pick a candidate, Grok and GPT picked opposite parties.* Convovo asked GPT-6.1 Sol and Grok 4.7 through their APIs to name one candidate in nearly 500 midterm races. Grok 4.7 named the Republican 92 percent of the time, GPT-6.1 Sol named the Democrat 97 percent, and they agreed in under 10 percent of races. The leans held even against the local electorate. The mechanism is the interesting part. Turn web search off and GPT still picked the Democrat in 24 of 30 races - that lean is in the weights. Grok refused to pick in 27 of 30, so its lean came from what it searched for. Caveat: a forced-choice prompt against a developer API, not the chat apps, which refused. https://convovo.ai/ballot/

THE BIG PICTURE
A FRESH PERSPECTIVE
Research
One distance function matched sparse-autoencoder features across layers and compressed feature circuits into supernodes
Two sparse-autoencoder analyses have resisted scaling: matching semantically similar features across layers, and compressing large feature circuits into interpretable supernodes. This paper argues both are the same underlying problem, estimating semantic distances between SAE features that sit on different activation manifolds. Its representation treats each feature not as a single decoder vector but as an activation-weighted distribution over the hidden states expressing it, projects those distributions into a shared reference space, and compares them with Wasserstein distance. The representation is proved invariant to activation rescaling and stable under perturbation, and recovers true matches under finite-sample margin conditions. Empirically it outperformed decoder-vector and LLM-based baselines and captured subtle functional distinctions between related features, and it compressed large feature circuits into interpretable supernodes automatically. The limitation is that this is interpretability tooling: the paper demonstrates better feature matching and circuit compression, not that downstream interpretability claims become more accurate.
