AWS open-sourced an agent runtime that fits 75,000 idle agents into a Raspberry Pi

AspireAI community · AWS Open Source Blog
Most agents are waiting. A build runs twenty minutes, a PR sits for hours, an approval lands next morning. AWS released Infinity under Apache 2.0, part of the Hydro project with Berkeley. It treats an agent like a suspended function: call a tool, the runtime saves the conversation and parks it, resuming when the result arrives. The payoff is density. AWS ran 80,000 agents on one AMD EPYC thread, memory growing about 100 KB per idle agent - so roughly 75,000 fit in a Raspberry Pi 5's 8 GB. On serverless, a waiting agent consumes no compute at all. Caveat: AWS calls it an early research release; the benchmark used in-memory stores on one machine. https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/opensource/introducing-infinity-a-runtime-for-extreme-agent-concurrency

THE BIG PICTURE

One distance function matched sparse-autoencoder features across layers and compressed feature circuits into supernodes
Two sparse-autoencoder analyses have resisted scaling: matching semantically similar features across layers, and compressing large feature circuits into interpretable supernodes. This paper argues both are the same underlying problem, estimating semantic distances between SAE features that sit on different activation manifolds. Its representation treats each feature not as a single decoder vector but as an activation-weighted distribution over the hidden states expressing it, projects those distributions into a shared reference space, and compares them with Wasserstein distance. The representation is proved invariant to activation rescaling and stable under perturbation, and recovers true matches under finite-sample margin conditions. Empirically it outperformed decoder-vector and LLM-based baselines and captured subtle functional distinctions between related features, and it compressed large feature circuits into interpretable supernodes automatically. The limitation is that this is interpretability tooling: the paper demonstrates better feature matching and circuit compression, not that downstream interpretability claims become more accurate.
