When web services expose agent-facing APIs, 91% of existing vulnerabilities stayed exploitable, and interface design moved that number far more than model choice

Web services increasingly expose backend interfaces that let users delegate tasks to AI agents, which invoke service operations directly without navigating websites - and that changes which existing web vulnerabilities can be exploited. Through VELA, an executable benchmark covering 44 vulnerabilities across twelve web application families with vulnerable backends preserved, the agent realizes every attack that direct interface invocation realizes in the reference configuration: 91% of vulnerabilities remain exploitable.
Interface design affects exploitability more than agent choice, moving retention from 39% to 95% against at most 4.5 points across agents. No case-level loss in the reference configuration is attributed to agent refusal or input normalization, and in one case the agent completed an attack by supplying calls the attacker had omitted.
The honest limit: some restrictive interfaces also limit legitimate workflows, so the paper's trade-off between attack exposure and preserved functionality is real rather than free.

Two sparse-autoencoder analyses have resisted scaling: matching semantically similar features across layers, and compressing large feature circuits into interpretable supernodes. This paper argues both are the same underlying problem, estimating semantic distances between SAE features that sit on different activation manifolds. Its representation treats each feature not as a single decoder vector but as an activation-weighted distribution over the hidden states expressing it, projects those distributions into a shared reference space, and compares them with Wasserstein distance. The representation is proved invariant to activation rescaling and stable under perturbation, and recovers true matches under finite-sample margin conditions. Empirically it outperformed decoder-vector and LLM-based baselines and captured subtle functional distinctions between related features, and it compressed large feature circuits into interpretable supernodes automatically. The limitation is that this is interpretability tooling: the paper demonstrates better feature matching and circuit compression, not that downstream interpretability claims become more accurate.
