A framework for choosing a robot action model that admits what it does not know

AspireAI community · arXiv
Picking a vision-language-action or world-action model on success rate alone leaves out adaptation cost, deployment requirements and how reliable the reported evidence is. RoboSeed defines five dimensions - capability, downstream training affordability, deployment affordability, locally verified research value, and reproduction evidence - maps measurements and audit criteria onto 0-100 profiles using fixed normalisation anchors, and offers balanced, training-constrained and deployment-constrained preference settings. Interface and protocol checks establish when a comparison is fair at all. Missing measurements stay explicit, incomplete aggregate scores are withheld rather than imputed, and weighted input coverage identifies where the evidence is thin. Applied to representative VLA and WAM models, the results show budget-dependent backbone choices, sensitivity to adaptation recipes, and differences between language and visual task interfaces. The authors state plainly that incomplete serving traces and heterogeneous protocols preclude overall numerical rankings.

THE BIG PICTURE
A FRESH PERSPECTIVE

One distance function matched sparse-autoencoder features across layers and compressed feature circuits into supernodes
Two sparse-autoencoder analyses have resisted scaling: matching semantically similar features across layers, and compressing large feature circuits into interpretable supernodes. This paper argues both are the same underlying problem, estimating semantic distances between SAE features that sit on different activation manifolds. Its representation treats each feature not as a single decoder vector but as an activation-weighted distribution over the hidden states expressing it, projects those distributions into a shared reference space, and compares them with Wasserstein distance. The representation is proved invariant to activation rescaling and stable under perturbation, and recovers true matches under finite-sample margin conditions. Empirically it outperformed decoder-vector and LLM-based baselines and captured subtle functional distinctions between related features, and it compressed large feature circuits into interpretable supernodes automatically. The limitation is that this is interpretability tooling: the paper demonstrates better feature matching and circuit compression, not that downstream interpretability claims become more accurate.
