Diffusers 0.42.1 is a security release that closes a trust_remote_code bypass
AspireAI community · GitHub / Hugging Face Diffusers
Hugging Face shipped Diffusers 0.42.1 as a security fix for GHSA-4prv-5hj7-c2xr, a vulnerability in how a component's declared library name is resolved when loading with from_pretrained. Pipelines and models declare each component as a library-class pair in model_index.json or config.json, and the flaw in that resolution path allowed the trust_remote_code bypass the release was written to close across the DiffusionPipeline, AutoModel and ModularPipeline loading paths. The patch also adds a clearer error when the declared class is not found in the resolved module, and every user on 0.42.0 is advised to upgrade. Anyone running untrusted model repositories should treat this as a priority upgrade rather than a routine patch.

Two sparse-autoencoder analyses have resisted scaling: matching semantically similar features across layers, and compressing large feature circuits into interpretable supernodes. This paper argues both are the same underlying problem, estimating semantic distances between SAE features that sit on different activation manifolds. Its representation treats each feature not as a single decoder vector but as an activation-weighted distribution over the hidden states expressing it, projects those distributions into a shared reference space, and compares them with Wasserstein distance. The representation is proved invariant to activation rescaling and stable under perturbation, and recovers true matches under finite-sample margin conditions. Empirically it outperformed decoder-vector and LLM-based baselines and captured subtle functional distinctions between related features, and it compressed large feature circuits into interpretable supernodes automatically. The limitation is that this is interpretability tooling: the paper demonstrates better feature matching and circuit compression, not that downstream interpretability claims become more accurate.
