PR4Code ships 13,339 curated pull requests with commit histories and metadata, aimed at AI code generation beyond snippet completion

AspireAI community · arXiv
AI-driven code generation is evolving from handling small, localized code-completion tasks toward implementing full software features, and most evaluation resources still focus on isolated code fragments. PR4Code is a dataset of 4,508 Java and 8,831 Python curated pull requests collected from GitHub, each enriched with metadata, commit histories and detailed code changes, so it captures the feature implementation process rather than a single isolated diff. The analysis reports substantial variability in PR structure, commit granularity and textual content, and the authors release scripts to regenerate and update the dataset for reproducibility and maintainability. The paper was published in IEEE Access, volume 14, pages 108479 to 108491. The limitation is scale and distribution: 13,339 PRs is a meaningful benchmark for feature-level generation but still a narrow slice of real software work, and the corpus reflects the public GitHub population rather than any one organisation's codebase or its review conventions.

THE BIG PICTURE
A FRESH PERSPECTIVE
Research
One distance function matched sparse-autoencoder features across layers and compressed feature circuits into supernodes
Two sparse-autoencoder analyses have resisted scaling: matching semantically similar features across layers, and compressing large feature circuits into interpretable supernodes. This paper argues both are the same underlying problem, estimating semantic distances between SAE features that sit on different activation manifolds. Its representation treats each feature not as a single decoder vector but as an activation-weighted distribution over the hidden states expressing it, projects those distributions into a shared reference space, and compares them with Wasserstein distance. The representation is proved invariant to activation rescaling and stable under perturbation, and recovers true matches under finite-sample margin conditions. Empirically it outperformed decoder-vector and LLM-based baselines and captured subtle functional distinctions between related features, and it compressed large feature circuits into interpretable supernodes automatically. The limitation is that this is interpretability tooling: the paper demonstrates better feature matching and circuit compression, not that downstream interpretability claims become more accurate.
