A swarm of cron-job agents sharing a GitHub board ran 15x more daily merges, and at least 5.6 percent of issues it marked fixed had wrong fixes

AspireAI community · arXiv
Coding agents build prototypes quickly, but the long tail of fixes, optimizations, tests and releases is what separates a prototype from a product, so this paper models that tail as an instant software factory: a swarm of cron-job agents with standing objectives plus one shared communication board, such as GitHub, where the agents coordinate through the traces they leave. The bootstrap prompt that sets both up was distilled from two manually configured industrial factories observed for 15 and 17 days. In the GitHub-coordinated CLI factory, daily merges rose 15x during agent rollout, the agents filed 95 percent of new issues and authored 40 of 58 pull requests that changed CI workflows, and at least 5.6 percent of issues marked as fixed were later found to have incorrect fixes, which is an observed association rather than a controlled result. The authors are explicit about the limit: the bootstrap prompt has not yet been evaluated, the rollout figures are observational, and five months of planned work is needed to evolve both factories and test five falsifiable hypotheses.

THE BIG PICTURE
A FRESH PERSPECTIVE
Research
One distance function matched sparse-autoencoder features across layers and compressed feature circuits into supernodes
Two sparse-autoencoder analyses have resisted scaling: matching semantically similar features across layers, and compressing large feature circuits into interpretable supernodes. This paper argues both are the same underlying problem, estimating semantic distances between SAE features that sit on different activation manifolds. Its representation treats each feature not as a single decoder vector but as an activation-weighted distribution over the hidden states expressing it, projects those distributions into a shared reference space, and compares them with Wasserstein distance. The representation is proved invariant to activation rescaling and stable under perturbation, and recovers true matches under finite-sample margin conditions. Empirically it outperformed decoder-vector and LLM-based baselines and captured subtle functional distinctions between related features, and it compressed large feature circuits into interpretable supernodes automatically. The limitation is that this is interpretability tooling: the paper demonstrates better feature matching and circuit compression, not that downstream interpretability claims become more accurate.
